Colon Cleanses

Updated: Dec 12, 2020

Are you not getting the results you’re looking for with colon cleanses? Are you bloated and losing energy? If you have tried multiple different “cleanses” and are not having success, then you are in the right place!

I put quotation marks around cleanses because they are actually putting more toxins into your body then getting rid of them! Yes, it is true that toxins can build up inside of you, but that just means that you are constipated. No, they will NOT poison you and lead to diseases. If you have a healthy colon, you should be eliminating around two times a day. Although, it is important to understand that you should not be eliminating as much as you take in. If you were, then your body wouldn’t be absorbing all of the nutrients that give you energy.

Have you ever truly read the labels on colon cleanses? Even if you have, what are the chances that any of the ingredients make sense? Many of them contain bentonite clay which is responsible for the “evidence” that the cleansing product companies claim is a poisonous waste. Bentonite clay expands from the liquid in the gastrointestinal tract and combines with psyllium which adds that evidence companies advertise.

Psyllium is also included on the labels; it’s a soluble fiber from the seeds of Plantago Ovata, an herb grown in India. Psyllium is able to pass through the digestive tract without being fully broken down, instead, it absorbs water and becomes a compound that helps constipation.

So what can you do if you are having endless problems with constipation? First, let’s start with some don’ts. Do NOT use stimulant laxatives, enemas, or colon irrigations. Your body can easily become dependent and addicted to stimulant laxatives for any sense of normality when eliminating. Enemas are substances that are put into your colon to get rid of other things. This doesn’t even make sense, why would you put more things in to get something out? Also, coffee enemas have been linked to multiple illnesses! Colonic irrigation is when a doctor removes a large amount of fluid and other substances from your colon. This can cause an electrolyte imbalance and if too much pressure is used, a hole can be created in your colon.

Now for the Dos! Fiber-containing laxatives are a great place to start because they are a more natural alternative. Sometimes, it can be difficult to get enough protein in your diet if that isn’t your main focus, so a fiber containing laxative can be a good alternative to other laxatives. Another option is magnesium citrate. It is an osmotic laxative which means that it relaxes your bowels and pulls water into your intestines which can help loosen things up.

In smaller doses, this can act as a laxative to help empty yourself out.

As a last resort, you can try GoLytely which is polyethylene glycol, AKA the stuff you drink before a colonoscopy. In smaller doses, this can act as a laxative to help empty yourself out.

It is important to remember to only use these options if you absolutely have to. Try to take these next few steps so you won’t have any issues with constipation. A regular exercise program is always a good idea, as well as a nutritious diet with fiber rich foods. Also, water fixes almost everything, so drink plenty of water!
